Statesville Prison, PA:
Lindsay paced the small cell. There was nothing worse than being a fatigued insomniac haunted by old memories. She stopped and massaged the back of her neck in frustration.
"Get a grip, Lindsay!" she scolded herself. The bright spot of going back to work duty was that Tillie was still serving punishment for trying to smother her to death in the laundry cart and wouldn't be around to harass her. Hopefully, she'd have the chance to talk to Allison without interruption and see about getting plans into action.
"A vacation in Cuba would be nice." Lindsay held up her pale arms and giggled. "I could use a tan." Now for the first time she wished she had paid attention to more of Sam's cases, and, in particular, the laws regarding international extradition agreements. "Well, Linds," she lamented, "don't kick yourself too hard. You couldn't have known."
She sank down on the bunk, hoping sleep would overtake her soon. It felt strange to have nightfall without being able to look upon the moon or wish upon a star. Not that any of her dreams ever came true anyway, she shrugged.
("It's a charm. A Masai chief gave it to me. Makes your wishes come true.")
("I want Nora out of my life.")
Lindsay groaned and grabbed the pillow. "Hmph! That chief sure had you suckered, Troy. Wishes come true, my a**." She gave the thin, unfortunate cushion a few good punches and lay her head down.
Troy. It wasn?t that long ago that he was holding her in his arms in his loft, and they?d gaze at the moon together in comfortable silence. She'd lean against his strong, wide chest, feel the steady beat of his heart and know that she was in the safest place in the universe with a man who loved and accepted her for who she was.
("All those other men -- they didn't know how to treat you like I do, Lindsay")
Her restless mind finally succumbing, Lindsay drifted into sleep as a sole tear escaped from her closed lids and trickled down her cheek.
